Back in 2011/12 we began our transformation from the ground up by looking closely at previous practice and how well it matched the needs of our specific location and communities.
We realised that if we were to design children's services for a locality starting from completely from scratch we wouldn't re-design what was already in place. Systems and processes had grown up over years of new initiatives, targets, budgets and requirements from central government as well as reacting to local needs and priorities.
We continue to review and question our ways of working to continuously improve the life outcomes for children and young people and families in Harrow. We are ambitious, not complacent.
Single front door and Team around the Family
We place vulnerable children, young people and families firmly at the heart. Staffed by an expert multi-agency team our single front door receives all contacts and referrals for all early intervention and targeted children's services provided or commissioned by the council. This continues to build on our ground-breaking early experience as a Metropolitan Police pilot. Our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub helps ensure all partners share information quickly and act together to keep children safe.
Our commitment is to evidence based, reflective practice. We continue to actively explore the Reclaiming Social Work approach, including our involvement with partners through DfE Innovation Projects.
Staff work in multi-disciplinary Teams Around the Family in our early help/early intervention services. Families have rapid access to services tailored to their needs with the most vulnerable fast tracked to the help they need. Our Children’s Centres continue to deliver parent support and early help and are particularly effective in reaching some of our most vulnerable families.
