My priority is to make sure that we support vulnerable families, and that all of our children in Harrow have the best start in life, through the delivery of innovative and good quality services for those in need.
In order to achieve this, my second priority to ensure that we have a service that values its staff, listens and responds to their ideas about how to continue to move forward and improve our services.
Now is an exciting time to join Harrow Children's Services. In response to a service review, we have redesigned how Children’s Services are delivered, with the child’s journey our primary focus. We have delivered a major piece of transformation work, which has delivred a more joined up way of working. This has ensured that Children's Services is well positioned to meet the challenges of the future head on, and continue to drive improved outcomes for the Children and young people of Harrow. This transformation brings with it genuine opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Our Social Work POD model was developed through extensive consultation with residents, staff and partners, and puts vulnerable children and their families firmly at the heart of a more efficient and effective system. Multi-disciplinary teams will work on a Team around the Family model utilising evidence based interventions. Families will have rapid access to services tailored to their needs with the most vulnerable fast tracked. Our POD model was launched in 2013, and we are now seeing the benefits of our approach three years on.
As we transform our services to support integrated working, we have also mirrored this model of partnership working with our fully embedded Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) that means we are well placed to assess and meet children’s needs in a timely way. This reduces the need for high cost statutory interventions. This way of working is fully supported by an active and effective Local Safeguarding Children Board.
Harrow is an excellent place to further your career. Developing social workers through cutting edge Step-Up, Frontline and AYSE programmes means that Harrow can really support a long term career pathway for our staff. We are also partners with Department of Education Innovation Programmes, including the Tavistock Clinic, with the development of a comprehensive integrated Emotional Health and Wellbeing Targeted Service. These Innovation Programmes are aimed at further developing the POD model, working with young people on “the edge of care”, developing first line managers, and reducing bureaucracy for social care staff. We are an ambitious authority and do a lot of things very well.
We consider our staff to be our most precious resource and strive to give them the tools and conditions they need to do a difficult job. In return, we want people who can contribute to the next stage of our journey, through ideas, energy and commitment to a high standard of service - professionals like you who are passionate about achieving excellent outcomes for children. We hope that you will share our ambitious journey, and I look forward to receiving your application, and hopefully meeting you as the recruitment process is completed.
